Eclipsa Audio Compliance Program Expands to Content Creation: Introducing Audio Capture and Audio Encoder Categories
Aug 17, 2026
Beaverton, OR: HDR10+ Technologies LLC, administrator of the Eclipsa Audio Compliance Program, today confirmed that Eclipsa Audio Capture and Eclipsa Audio Encoder are now open categories under the program, extending Eclipsa Audio from the living room (TVs and soundbars) back to the point where immersive audio content is actually made.
Since the Eclipsa Audio program launched in October 2025, adoption has centered on playback devices: televisions and soundbars that decode and render IAMF (Immersive Audio Model and Format) content. Audio Capture and Audio Encoder close the loop on the other end of that chain: the microphones, capture systems, and content creation tools used to originate and prepare Eclipsa Audio content.
Eclipsa Audio Capture Devices cover products such as spatial microphone arrays and capture devices that record IAMF-compatible audio and metadata directly at the source. Eclipsa Audio Encoders cover the encoding software and content creation tools that package immersive audio into IAMF bitstreams for distribution and playback.
Consistent with the rest of the Eclipsa Audio program, Encoder tools are self-tested by their developers based on the published Eclipsa Audio Encoder Test Specification, at no cost. Capture Devices are self-tested by the applicant against the Eclipsa Audio Capture Test Specification, under the same annual adopter terms as other Eclipsa Audio device categories.
“Eclipsa Audio has always been about making sure the audience hears immersive sound the way the creator intended, and that starts long before it reaches a TV or soundbar,” said Bill Mandel, co-manager of HDR10+ Technologies LLC. “Opening the Compliance Program to Capture and Encoder categories means the production side of the ecosystem can now build to the same standard as the playback side.”
Open-source tooling for Eclipsa Audio content creation, including the iamf-tools command-line utilities and IAMF support in ffmpeg 7.0 and later, is already available to developers alongside the free Eclipsa Audio DAW plugins.
